Victoria is the founding chapter of the RBMS, and has provided a platform for knowledge sharing across the various disciplines of river basin planning and management for over 30 years.
The Victorian chapter aims to provide our members with relevant content to be informed on contemporary river and catchment management issues, and to discuss, challenge, influence and contribute to these topics.
Victoria’s water sources face many of the same threats and challenges as the rest of the country: with climate change, extraction, bushfires, floods, invasive species, modifications/developments, social/economic pressures and pollution among others. But with every challenge comes an opportunity to help be a part of the solution and adaptively work towards improved outcomes.
Est. 2014
Enthusiasm generated by the knowledge sharing among locals at the 7th Australian Stream Management Conference held in Townsville led to the establishment of a local RBMS chapter.
Queensland faces a number of challenges with river management including the protection of important receiving waters like the Great Barrier Reef and Moreton Bay and rapidly growing urban areas.
The QLD chapter has held many great events on a diverse range of topics including urban stream management, water quality, Great Barrier Reef catchment management and the economics of river health management. The chapter has also held a number of great field trips to sites across South East Queensland.
Est. 2019
Like all our chapters, our growing presence in NSW was initiated by a group of enthusiastic delegates who met at the 9th Australian Stream Management Conference in Hobart.
